I will be breaking this trip report into two as I wanted the hotel post to be separate from the massively long ski post about where we went and why. So, first our stay at the Marriott TownePlace Suites Layton Utah.
One of the great things I love about Salt Lake is almost all the ski resorts are about 1 hour, give or take, away from downtown Salt Lake. We landed at 2:PM on Tuesday and by 4:PM were skiing for free at Park City via the Quick Start program, but I digress.
The location we picked this trip was just about 15 min north of downtown and was the best deal we could find on points. Right next to I-15 we could hop on the highway to get to the southern ski resorts and even closer to the northern spots.
The hotel was nice. It is a standard extended stay hotel and included free continental breakfast you can take up to your room. Bagels, cereal, fruit and such is all I need for a quick snack before hitting the slopes. I was welcomed as a silver Marriott rewards member and with 3 Marriott properties on location given access to the facilities at any of the hotels.
The price, if I had not uesd 70,000 Marriott points, would have been, for the studio suite and the upgraded second 2 room suite, 99 + 139 per night or a total for the 6 nights of $1428. For me, that is a great value of points and status! Chase has a 50,000 point personal card and a 30,000 point business card as well:
(you get the business link in the left hand bottom part of the personal link btw)
Both cards have no fee first year but if you keep them both on your card anniversary you would get 15+10 nights stay credit and would be 1/2 way (edit: max night credit from all cards total is 15)to Marriott gold status just from these two cards (and will make silver with either of the cards).
As you can see the rooms all have flat screen TV’s and full kitchens and reasonably sized bathrooms. Wifi was FREE and responsive. The rooms were clean and the heat worked fine. I spend most of the week on the slopes or in nice restaurants so that was all I wanted anyway.
To wrap up, this is a modest hotel that appreciated my patronage and I would go back anytime! More on the way about the amazing ski week I had later on this week – René

Looks a good place to base yourself. This year was our first trip to Utah and the SLC area. I have to say it cannot be beaten for convenience or value, and there are so many options to stay on points both slope-side and off-site. Look forward to your thoughts on the skiing itself. It definitely is very, very good, though for us not quite up there with the lofty heights of Whistler
