You don’t have to travel far to get a great vacation! Ever think about taking a staycation (& asking a travel agent to help with one)? A staycation is just a fancy term for spending your vacation time close to home. I have done it a few times and had so much fun! The last time, last year, was with Rene and Lisa when they had a great deal on a Priority Club PointBreaks room in Chicago!
We know Chicago very well since its only a couple of hours drive from us. We can even take the SouthShore train from our area, which is what I do with my girlfriends so none of us have to bother with driving or parking costs. My friends always have lots of ideas on what they want to do, but what if you have never been to your intended staycation city? Expand your mind beyond just spending time with the family at the hotel pool. Give your local travel agent a call and have them give you some options and book activities for you!
In Chicago, for example here is a list of things I have booked for my clients;

- Inside Chicago Grand Tour: a four hour comprehensive tour which shows you all that Chicago has to offer.
- The Spirit of Chicago: take a little cruise. Celebrate three hours on a dinner and dance cruise in the summertime along the magnificent Chicago Lakefront.

- Then my all time favorite : The Chicago CityPass!
Here is what it includes; visit five famous Chicago attractions for one low price! Avoid most ticket lines! Includes tickets to the Field Museum including Underground Adventure, Shedd Aquarium, Skydeck Chicago (Fast Pass entry), Your choice of John Hancock Observatory (Fast Pass entry) OR Museum of Science and Industry, and your choice of Adler Planetarium OR Art Institute of Chicago. The Chicago CityPass is good for nine days from the first use.
This is a great package and some of these attraction offer kids under age 6 free or discounted admission. The CityPass allows you to zip past main ticket lines to the CityPass entrance. If you should have to change your dates the pass is good for six months after the travel date listed. The only thing to watch out for, starting at the 1st of the year, is that street parking is really going up as you can see.

Great idea. Since I live so close to DC I never thought about staying in town but after reading about your staycation, I think it would be a great idea.
It is a great idea. We just moved to louisville and decided to do a staycation just so we could learn the city. We had a great time and now, when friends come to visit, we have personal experience as to what to do and see. Makes me wish we had done the same when we lived in Atlanta!
Sounds like an excellent idea. As well as being more convenient than a “normal” holiday, a staycation would be a great option for people who have a fear of flying.
