Thanks so much for all the input from today’s post about text alerts for deals! Just to be clear, this is a work in progress so don’t expect perfection out of the gates.
First a BIG thanks to Hans Golden! I had known I could both e-mail and get e-mails to my sprint phone via the phone number but had forgotten all about it. This will work I think.
Now to some of the details of this. If you want to be part of this beta test, check this list Http://www.emailtextmessages.com/ (also from Hans G – thank you!)
What I need for you to do is test before you send me your phone number. Use YOUR e-mail account to send yourself a text and see if it works for you. If it does, just send me your phone number and the rest of the “phone” email. For example, a sprint one from SBN area would be
5745551212@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Please send it to alert@deltapoints.com and I will add you to the list. Over the weekend I will send out a TEST text. I have tested with both my and my wife’s phone numbers and you will NOT see others phone numbers. The only reply to number will be the alert@deltapoints.com e-mail.
Once deals are found that are great, I plan to text to you, “GO TO deltapoints.com” or “GO TO (what ever the link is to go to)”. You should be able to click on it right away and read if it is a deal you want to be a part of and move from a phone to a computer to get it done.
I will want feedback as we beta test this idea and just what deals to text about. I will do my best to ONLY text home run items like Hong Kong. Just keep in mind every now and then I will text some deal and you will say, “this is NOT alert worthy” and at other times some will say, “why did you not alert us about this“. It will be a work in progress. I do think it will be great but if it is not, I will simply shut the beta test down. – René

@D: You can do Google Voice texts too, it’s just a bit more involved. Here’re the steps:
1. Go to http://voice.google.com and log in.
2. Click on the gear icon in top right corner.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click Voicemail and Text.
5. Checkmark Forward text messages to my email.
6. Click Save Changes
7. Click on the red Text button in top left corner.
8. Send a text to yourself at your Google Voice number.
9. Check your email for the text message.
10. Copy the “From” email address and send that to Rene. Now whenever he sends an email to that address, you’ll receive a Google Voice text.

I think you should consider 2 different types/situations for texting timely info.. I am recently retired and “wanna go”. I don’t mind getting info. on great ticket deals…paid or miles…if you have great deals please let me know. Others might opt for “only the deal of the decade…Hong Kong”…don’t flood me with stuff…kind of situations. How bout it??? Whatever you decide…Thanks for any and all help…much appreciated!!!!
