This summer’s PointBreaks list went so fast it was hard to keep up. Other than the 3-4K SPG hotels , this is one of the best value deals going in hotels for me. I still have a weekend stay on the way this month at the Intercontinental in Cleveland and have just finished this one at the StayBridge in Maumee Ohio.
I had booked at another hotel but as soon as the PC PointBreaks list hit I looked for my upcoming stays for the summer and started to make some changes. I had never stayed at a Staybridge and would call it an upgraded flavor of the Candlewood Suites. Both Staybridge and Candlewood are ready for some big upgrades from IHG. This Staybridge was modern and for the most part up to date.
IHG hotels do not need to honor the Platinum Priority Club status we can all get from just getting the 80k Chase IHG card (not my link and at the bottom of the list of cards) but I have found if you follow my advice on hotel upgrades, a majority of the time you will get an upgrade even when staying on points. This stay was no exception.
We were booked for a studio suite on the 5k PointBreaks and got upgraded to a handicapped, which was fine, two room king suite. All the rooms have a kitchenette and the bathrooms are nice size.
They offer free breakfast each day, not just cold food, but hot and even dinners some nights free with beer for just $1.00 each!
This is not a luxury hotel but I was pleased with the clean, open, modern feel as well as the layout and amenities and would without question pick Staybridge over Candlewood anytime due to the free breakfasts! My only negative was the bed was ROCK hard. That may have been due to the handicapped room but wow was it bad for me since I like a very soft bed.
Slowly I am working my way through all the IHG hotels and still have a ton of PC points remaining. I had my mom-in-law with us for this trip so two rooms, both 2 room suites, after my 10% points rebate for having the Chase PC card, cost me just 27,000 points for 3 nights! That is value for a weekend getaway “staycation” in my book! – René
