I don’t like soap operas. Over acting and plots where your long lost cousin is actually your adopted brother twice removed is just silly. Then we look at the Delta news roundup for June and you realize we may be in a soap with our dear airline!
Early this year I blogged that 50 seat resignal jets were to be on the way out and that Delta wanted to dump them as fast as possible. My fellow BA blogger the Wandering Armenian posted the other day about the trouble with Pinnacle air, but not just them, Comair could even end up going away.
The next step will be to boost the pilot’s pay to move CRJ pilots into larger jets like the 717’s they are to be leasing soon from SW Air. They are also talking about replacing two 50 seat CJR’s with one 76 seat plane reducing cost and adjusting capacity. The SBN-ATL route would be perfect for this kind of replacement. AZO or SBN to DTW will unfortunately probably remain CRJ and other such super short routes likely will remain with tiny jets. I love having service to MSP, DTW & ATL all out of SBN giving me so many connection choices.
Comair is not the only one trying to figure out how to fly and make money. AirFrance is going to have to make some massive cuts one way or another, but that may not be easy to do. With all the labor rules in place this could be a hard fight for AF. And it is not just AF but their regional CityJet that may be trouble as well!
And speaking of infectious diseases (how is that for a segway), do you ever think about how clean your plane is? I posted a photo on Flyer Talk of a passenger from a recent flight as you can see. But it looks like more than just feet are issues. Oh is it even safe to walk out in public, let alone get on an airplane ever again?!?
The expansion for NYC is great for flyers in NYC, but MEM is cutting even more!
This story is very sad from a human interest standpoint, but I am surprised they did not land. Not much fun to fly sitting across the aisle from a dead person on Kenya Airways a part of Skyteam btw!
Looks like our Delta “gas” from Monroe Energy will soon be on the way as employees are going back to work.
And that just about wraps up the news for June. Fly safe everyone – René
