EDIT: JUST GOT WORD the deal
will be LIVE tomorrow
but limited to first 1000 orders!

I will post tonight about the final details and what I will be doing.

It is going to be great.

————————————————

How would you like earn a free domestic low level award ticket for every $500 you spend at Skymall? Skymall ran this promotion back in September this year and I collected a cool ¼ million skymiles for an all-in cost of just $700.

How did I do this? If you purchased at least $500 on one invoice, withing 8 weeks, you will be credited 25,000 skymiles for the purchase. You could do this as much as you wanted.

Now since a coach class ticket to Europe costs just under $1000 (depending on where you are going) you can see what a deal this can be. For two purchases / invoices you get 50,000 miles that is just short of a free low level ticket to Europe. If you make 4 purchases / invoices then you earn 100,000 miles or enough for a free business class ticket for just $2000 in spend. Now this is if you just buy things for yourself or gifts for others. I did not do that!

What I did was this. I found that they sold  SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 10.1’s  for $499.99. I also got a 9v battery for 99 cents. I then resold all 10 of the TAB’s on eBay in one day. My cost to sell them including my eBay, Paypal and s&h fee’s to get them out the door was a loss of $70 per order. Thus, for $700 I earned 250,000 skymiles plus 10,000 Capital One points for the $5000 purchase cost (10×500).

I have had questions as to why I did not use my DELTA AMEX RESERVE credit card to earn 5x points per dollar spent at SKYMALL on this deal? The terms said you could not do both otherwise my DELTA card would have been the clear winner for this as well.

I have been told, and you can  read more about it here at FlyerTalk, that the deal will be coming back this week. So if you are going to take advantage of the promotion do some homework and start looking for thing to buy and keep or to resell that you can “lose” as little as possible on.

A few final thoughts about this deal. I wish I had gone “BIG” last time and gone for 1 million miles. It was very E-Z and cheap last time. This time the cost will be higher. I see $100-150 loss per item all-in. Still, if you lose as much as $200 per order, you are buying a business class low level mile ticket to Europe for just $800+ tax. Again, do some homework and see if this will be worth it to you when it goes live (not yet obviously)! – René

Just to be nice how about a chance for 2 more free drink/snack coupons for DELTA good until 31DEC2012 – just comment below(by 10PM EST) and I will randomly pick a winner and get them in the mail to you! PS – keep read’in the blog more giveaways all next week as well 🙂

We have a WINNER it is: #14 Ben Chapman !

Congratulations Ben you WON. Please email me from the SAME email you posted with and include your mailing address and I will get them out to you tomorrow! Thanks to everyone for reading the blog – René

It’s an interesting way to do things..i guess the payout is big enough to make it worth it, but you have to wonder the time and risk required…

I’m all for risk, but hoping that my $5k of Galaxy Tabs sell is a tough convince lol.

Maybe I can win these drink coupons?

I love the blog so far, but can I offer a couple pieces of constructive criticism?
    1) For easier and more pleasant readability, please stop all-capping every DELTA reference. Delta themselves spell their name “Delta” so that should be good enough for the Delta Points blog.
    2) E-Z is spelled “easy”.

Thanks! Not trying to be a pain, just offering my suggestions for what would make the blog more pleasant.

Pricematch galaxy tab to amazon for $449, then sell on craigslist? sounds like a plan

SkyMall will not pricematch to Amazon becuase they have 3rd part sellers listed and compare that to Ebay.

That may be true anecdotaly, but the policy of Skymall as told to me by reps over the phone and an email rejecting my pricematch request said that ebay and amazon are not valid sources for a pricematch. Here’s the email i got:

Subject: Re: price match order # xxxxxxxxxx [InteractionID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]

          Dear xxxxxxx,

SkyMall does not price match with auction website’ s such as, e-bay and amazon. The product you are looking to price match is through the amazon site, it won’t be eligible for a price match I do apologize for the inconvenience.

If you need further assistance, please contact us 1-800-759-6255.

          Thank you,
          [SkyMall]

This would be a great way to meet minimum spend on some of the new cards out there. I picked up one new card, but since I only put about 2K a month on credit I’ll need 3 months to make minimums.

I’m going to take a look at the mall and figure out the all-in cost after also considering the 50K bonus from Chase.
